D’une gestion manuelle fastidieuse, Intel évolue vers un ensemble de transactions parfaitement orchestrées, dans le cadre desquelles les machines communiquent entre elles, avec un minimum d’intervention humaine. Le lancement du programme d'intégration des applications d'entreprise est une initiative d'envergure des services informatiques d'Intel.

Cette stratégie permet à Intel de passer d'une infrastructure multi-applicative point à point à une solution rationalisée qui libère les applications de la logique commerciale tout en les associant les unes aux autres avec souplesse.

De nombreux problèmes ont conduit Intel à développer sa stratégie d'intégration des applications d'entreprise, mais sa principale motivation a été de se doter de la capacité de:
- Gérer les crises en prenant des décisions immédiates.
- Contrôler la logistique des transactions commerciales.
- Intégrer une fonctionnalité commerciale dans la chaîne logistique rapidement et en douceur.

Ces priorités ajoutées aux autres impératifs commerciaux d'Intel ont fait de l'intégration des applications d'entreprise l'option stratégique la plus apte à les mettre en valeur.Défi tout autant qu'opportunité, cette stratégie d'intégration des applications d'entreprise s'inscrit dans un environnement de traitement et une infrastructure de plus en plus distribués. C'est pourquoi Intel continue à explorer les architectures applicatives et l'insertion de services Web.
