LynxSecure Selected by the Norwegian Defense Research Establishment
In support of a program in the field of classified information handling and information flow between security domains

LynuxWorks has announced that FFI (the Norwegian Defence Research Establishment) has selected LynxSecure in support of a program in the field of classified information handling and information flow between security domains.

FFI selected LynxSecure due to its unique ability to run Windows as a fully virtualized guest operating system in a secure partition on an Intel x86 family processor. According to Anders Eggen, Project Manager, FFI, "For some military scenarios high assurance systems are required, and products conforming to the MILS architecture are promising platforms on which to implement critical security functions. FFI will use LynxSecure to explore the MILS based technology and to perform research and prototyping activities to examine its ability to solve some of the security challenges raised in the implementation of a future Network Enabled Capability (NEC)."

According to Hamid Mirab, Managing Director for LynuxWorks, Europe, "LynuxWorks LynxSecure offers FFI a compact, efficient separation kernel and embedded hypervisor that allows them to consolidate multiple applications on a single, high performance multicore Intel processor, taking advantage of LynxSecure's MILS architecture for the highest levels of security."

"We are delighted with this recognition from FFI, a leading independent specialist in secure computing. LynxSecure will enable them to rapidly port existing applications and operating systems onto new hardware, enabling software reuse and helping to complete solutions more quickly and at lower cost," he continued.

LynxSecure 3.0 is the latest version of LynuxWorks' separation kernel and embedded hypervisor designed for high-assurance systems. LynxSecure 3.0 offers the ability to run fully virtualized guest operating systems simultaneously on the same hardware as para-virtualized and real-time operating systems, with each running in their own secure partition. It supports traditional desktop OSes like fully virtualized Windows® and para-virtualized Linux®, with hard real-time OSes like the LynxOS® RTOS family.
