MuleSoft Kicks into the Cloud
Administrators can manage their server instances both in the cloud as well as behind the firewall

MuleSoft, the web middleware concern, has released Tcat Server 6 R1, an enterprise-class web application server based on Apache Tomcat that now includes cloud deployment capabilities enabled in one click by a plug-in for Amazon EC2.

Administrators can manage their server instances both in the cloud as well as behind the firewall from the Tcat Server console.

Tcat Server is a fully supported version of Tomcat, based on the Apache Tomcat binary, with zero changes to the core code.

It's supposed to give Tomcat users critical enterprise-class functionality, including server group management, application provisioning and Tomcat-specific performance diagnostics, as well as let IT teams migrate from heavyweight legacy platforms such as Oracle WebLogic or IBM WebSphere to the lightweight Tomcat open source option.

Features include an application provisioning roll-back feature to a previous version for release management and failure recovery and integration with Apache Maven to push web apps developed with the Maven build tool directly into the Tcat Server repository for provisioning to server groups.

Subscription customers include Volvo Finance.

Tcat Server is free to use in development and pre-production environments. Production subscriptions and support for Apache Tomcat starts at $595 per CPU a year.
