Regarding Google’s $750 Million Acquisition of AdMob

“The news that Google acquired mobile advertising player AdMob for $750 million confirms the legitimacy of the mobile advertising industry, and overcomes any skepticism of whether small screens can offer big opportunities to reach mobile consumers,” says Dave Gwozdz, CEO of Mojiva Inc., which operates a mobile ad serving platform and mobile ad network. “The fact that Google has placed a premium on owning a mobile ad network is very notable. The market has definitely matured to the point where it makes sense for online behemoths to try to combine networks, analytics and delivery technologies in the hopes of capturing a share of this growing market.”

LTE - The Rise of the Mobile Prosumer

Such consumer & technology transformation has distorted the way 'Prosumer' consume their products & services, and interact with their mobile devices. The industry awaits to see if Asia’s Top Telecom guns can decide on a unified approach to map revenue streams back to the operators. The average handset has evolved from the humble voice-box, to the total media centre. As a result thousands of start-up companies are profiting out of the Telecom sector's advances, supplying the various add-ons which inevitably accompany any new wave of technology.

Microsoft & Nokia Aim to Go Stomp Blackberries

Microsoft and its new best friend, erstwhile rival Nokia, still the world’s biggest smartphone maker despite Apple and RIM though maybe not as chi-chi, have cut a grand long-term global alliance that will see Microsoft support a mobile OS other than Windows Mobile for the very first time. The move suggests that Microsoft units are starting to adopt more of an “it’s every man for himself, boys” approach to the market.

Mobile Comms Can Save €43bn in Energy Bills Per Year - Vodafone

A new report released by Vodafone and Accenture says that the use of mobile communications can reduce the annual energy bill for Europe by a €43 billion, equivalent to an annual reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by at least 113 Mt CO2e (metric ton carbon dioxide equivalents) by 2020. The figure equals about 2.4% of the CO2 emissions for the whole of the EU, or eliminating close to one-fifth of the UK’s emissions.

Obviously, there’s a catch. Vodafone says that the only way to achieve those goals is for the industry and governments to collaborate. The report, titled Carbon Connections: quantifying mobile’s role in tackling climate change, identified 13 opportunities that could enable carbon abatement across 25 EU countries.

$725 Million to Acquire Nortel's Assets

MPAM Wireless., an affiliate of MatlinPatterson, submitted to Nortel and its creditor constituencies a proposal to acquire substantially all of Nortel's CDMA and LTE Access assets for US$725 million.
